The Burleigh County Soil Conservation District

The Burleigh County Soil Conservation District (BCSCD) is located in central North Dakota. Serving rural and urban clients alike. Providing conservation planning assistance with emphasis on cropping systems, grazing systems, water quality and quantity, cover crops, shelterbelt tree plantings, and compost. In addition, the Menoken Farm is an educational site consisting of 150 acres of cropland owned and operated by the BCSCD. Offering a hands-on look at conservation practice application and increasing natural resource information and education transfer.

Conservationist

Jay Fuhrer is a Conservationist with the Burleigh County Soil Conservation District. Jay spends his time supporting the Menoken Farm soil health efforts. Sharing the Soil Health Principles and how healthy soil serves as a foundation for cropping systems, grazing systems, cover crops, wildlife, gardening, pollinators, insects, soil food web, quality of life and more.

Administrative Assistant

Sandy is the administrative assistant for the Burleigh County Soil Conservation District (BCSCD).  Prior to working for the district, she worked at the ND State Soil Conservation Committee.  At the office, she handles the daily clerical tasks as well as helping to organize and market events for the Menoken Farm and the BCSCD. Sandy lives in Bismarck and enjoys gardening and other outdoor activities.

Darrell Oswald, the District manager of Burleigh County SCD oversees all district operations. Including budget/grant and annual work plan administration as well as all information and educational activities. Oswald farms and ranches with his daughters east of Wing, N.D.

Windbreak Conservationist

Chad Thorson, the Windbreak Conservationist with the Burleigh County SCD  oversees the tree planting operations for the district as well as assisting with Menoken Farm Events. Chad enjoys spending time with his family and learning new things at the Menoken Farm.

Menoken Farm Manager

Seth Boechler, is the manager of the Menoken Farm for Burleigh County SCD. Seth’s duties include the day-to-day operations at the Menoken Farm including seeding crops, managing the livestock, analyzing data, and assisting with Menoken Farm events. Seth lives SE of Wilton, ND and enjoys hunting, fishing, trapping, and all things conservation!

Jaden Deckert

Urban Conservationist

Jaden Deckert is the Urban Conservationist with Burleigh County Soil Conservation District.  On a daily basis he assists with a variety of different Urban Initiatives, including forwarding soil health and improving conservation efforts amongst the urban communities of Burleigh County. He lives outside of Baldwin and enjoys spending time with his family, working with livestock and other outdoor activities.

Ginny Mehlhoff

Conservationist

Ginny Mehlhoff is a Conservationist with the Burleigh County Soil Conservation District. Ginny emphasizes Conservation Planning with all day-to-day Menoken Farm tasks. Activities include assisting with visiting groups and tours, high tunnel and outdoor gardening with companion planting emphasis, rain gardens, grant administration, soil and plant sampling, and supporting the Bismarck Mandan Food Pantries.
